Apple's new HomePod mini 2 and HomeView smart display bring AI-powered Siri and family-focused smart home features to Singapore parents. The updated HomePod mini 2 features a more conversational Siri AI, recognises up to six household voices, and includes safety alerts for smoke and carbon monoxide. Pre-orders for the HomePod mini 2 opened on 15 October, with the device going on sale on Friday, 30 October for S$199. The Siri AI feature itself will arrive in a future software update rather than at launch, and will be available in English in Singapore when released.

One parent explained the device's role, saying, "Our HomePods have been running the house since 2023: they wake us up in the morning, remind us of things at exactly the right time." The new model includes Sound Recognition, which listens for smoke or carbon monoxide alarms and sends an alert to a user's iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. It also features Sound Glow, which turns the top of the speaker into a light show that pulses with the audio. The HomePod mini 2 is available in white, black, pink, green, and a new shade of blue.

HomeView introduces facial recognition and family-centric smart display features

HomeView is a 7-inch display that sits on a speaker base on your counter, priced at S$399 in silver, starlight, rose pink, and space grey. A wall-mounted version is available at the same price in space grey or silver. Both HomeView models go on sale on Friday, 13 November, with Singapore pre-orders opening on 15 October.

The display recognises up to six family members by face. It shows personal items like Messages and Calendar entries only when the right person is recognised and their paired iPhone or iPad is nearby and recently unlocked. This aims to keep family data private on a shared device. HomeView supports FaceTime calls with a camera that keeps everyone in frame as they move, and an Intercom function to broadcast messages to every room in the house. It can display up to nine camera feeds at once and can turn a web recipe into step-by-step instructions with hands-free timers. Apple has not detailed whether children can have their own profiles on HomeView, or if Screen Time and content restrictions carry over from other devices.

Siri AI and safety features roll out gradually, with some functions coming later

While the more conversational Siri AI is not available at launch for the HomePod mini 2, it will arrive via a software update. It is not yet known how well this AI will handle Singlish, or local names and places. Apple's announcement does not say whether older HomePod models will get the Siri AI upgrade. Furthermore, Apple has not detailed whether Siri AI will filter its answers for younger users on any device.

Apple’s broader home lineup includes Apple TV 4K updates and Home Collection

The new Apple TV 4K also joins the ecosystem. It features far-field microphones for hands-free Siri AI and includes a home theater feature allowing pairing with up to four second-gen HomePods or HomePod Mini 2s for surround sound. The new Siri Remote supports Find My. Apple says you can ask Siri AI questions while watching, including 'Is this appropriate for a 15-year-old?'.

Apple has partnered with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric for the Apple Home Collection. This builds on Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories, and includes security cameras, a video doorbell, a door lock, and two thermostats. Product availability begins December 2026, with select accessories arriving in early 2027. For HomeView, Schneider Home mounts start at S$79 for a USB-C wall connector and S$109 for an AC wired version. A Power-over-Ethernet wired option arrives in early 2027 for S$179.

If current HomePods are working well, there’s no rush to upgrade. Parents can pre-order HomeView starting 15 October, with both tabletop and wall-mounted versions going on sale 13 November.
